The Leap Valley Pollinator Project

On Tuesday September 8th the Avon Wildlife Trust Pollinator Pathway Team will be in Leap Valley and work will take place in the areas shown on the map to sow wild flower seeds to increase the number of flower species and that way to help the pollinating insects such as bees.

The areas will first be scarified and then seed will be sown and rolled in.

If you would like to volunteer to help with the project by sowing seed after about 1pm please send an e mail message to friendsofleapvalleysecretary@gmail.com

Wassailing – January 2022

Traditionally on Twelfth Night or thereabouts men would go with their wassail bowl into the orchard and go about the trees. Slices of bread or toast were laid at the roots and sometimes tied to branches. Cider was also poured over the tree roots. The ceremony is said to “bless” the trees to produce a good crop in the forthcoming season.

National Tree Week 2020

Leap Valley took its  part in the National Tree week 2020. We acquired and planted 5 new trees in the base of the valley. 4 Silver Birch and 1 Alder. With the threat of us losing trees to the Ash Dieback Disease we are very keen to plant several more trees whenever possible. 

Work continues with our three great guys going out there in all weathers to follow the  maintenance plan of the valley, along with tackling blockages in the stream. Our grateful thanks to them in keeping the valley looking so cared for whilst allowing it to remain ‘wild’.
